Overview

Lead Adult Care Workers are the frontline staff who help adults with care and support needs to achieve their personal goals and live as independently and safely as possible, enabling them to have control and choice in their lives. They have responsibility for providing supervision, frontline leadership, guidance and direction for others, or working autonomously, exercising judgement and accountability.

Which roles will the Apprenticeship prepare me for?

Typical job titles include Care Officer, Care Supervisor, Senior Care Worker, Supervising Care Worker, Senior Support Worker, Relief Team Leader, Social Work Assistant, Social Services Officer, Outreach Development Worker, Community Support Worker, Community Outreach Worker, Community Development Worker, Family Support Worker or Personal Assistant. You may also gain the skills you need to specialise in a variety of areas such as learning disability, mental health, drug and alcohol misuse, homecare, dementia and end-of-life care.

What subjects will I study?

During your Apprenticeship you will develop a wide range of new skills and knowledge in areas relevant to the context of the service in which you work. These include supporting with social activities, monitoring health, assisting with eating, mobility and personal care in accordance with their personal care/support plan. You will gain the confidence you need to take on additional responsibilities including the leadership and support of colleagues ensuring they work within safe, clear professional boundaries and legal requirements.

What does the Diploma include?

This Diploma is made up of mandatory and optional units. The mandatory units listed below cover core competencies.

There are a wide range of optional units to choose from which allow you to choose from to enable you to tailor the qualification to your needs, interests and your workplace setting including:

How will I be assessed?

Throughout your Apprenticeship your Training Consultant will provide continuous assessment, feedback and support to ensure you successfully complete all elements of your diploma and apprenticeship standard. On completion of training you will demonstrate the new skills and knowledge you have gained through a multiple choice test and professional discussion.
